Hello there and welcome to the home of Uncanny Theatre.
Uncanny Theatre came together with a desire to create absurd comedy performances about serious things. Highlighting the ridiculous elements of human nature and revealing a darker edge to our foibles.
We like clowns, cartoons and showing people things that surprise them.
28/03/12 - Tour done, future plans.
Well, OPTIMISM has breathed its last breath and has been laid to rest. Thanks to all those who came to see it and an extra special thanks to those who helped make it happen.
With the tour done and dusted we met up to talk of Uncanny's future and how we thought it should take shape. We had a jolly nice chat in the Wakefield sunshine and came up with some exciting thoughts and ideas as to how we might progress. A new show is in the pipeline and some other bits too. We'll keep you posted.
05/02/12 - Barbican Plymouth, Flourish Festival.
Final preparations are underway for our first date of our national tour for which we are returning to the Barbican Theatre, Plymouth with our show OPTIMISM this Friday, 10th Feb as part of the Barbican's Flourish Festival. We are busy putting in place the last bits and pieces and making sure we're prepared for the long drive down.
To find out more about Flourish take a look at their website: Flourish Fridays
And our very own Facebook page for the event: Uncanny at Flourish
20/11/11 - Barbican Plymouth, In the Flesh Festival and tour dates.
We are delighted to announce that we are performing a short scratch piece of our new show at the Barbican's In the Flesh festival. Here's some info about the event:
The Barbican Theatre presents it's 7th In the Flesh festival. A 3 day collision across art forms. In the Flesh is designed to encourage experimentation with the live-ness of performance, uniquely it deliberately incorporates scratch ideas, work in process, large and small experiments as well as finished pieces of performance. It encourages risk taking and wildness as well as simplicity and beauty. We want to push the perceptions of audiences and artists new and old.
If you'd like to have a closer look at the festival for more information then check its own dedicated facebook page.
And finally, tour dates will be announced imminently. We're just waiting for a few last things to be sorted. So keep yer eyes peeled.
15/08/11 - New show, Edinburgh, application writing and more tour booking...
Uncanny have begun tentative steps towards our second show. After a few lengthy discussions we settled upon the theme of fate & superstition. We've already started to explore these ideas at our homebase, Uncanny Towers. We also asked for your thoughts on these subjects through facebook and twitter but if you missed it first time round, or simply have more to say, then do let us know!
Two-thirds of Uncanny have visited the fringe this month. We'll no doubt post a brief entry on what delights were sampled.
And finally, in between other bits we have been busily writing an Arts Council application and booking our second 'Optimism' tour. It's all go at team Uncanny.
02/06/11 - New name, new website, new home!
As you can no doubt tell we've had some changes around here. First up is the most obvious, our name. We are now called Uncanny Theatre! Try it out, see how it feels in your mouth, don't be afraid to tell others and, of course, let us know what you think.
Second, with a new name comes a new website. Make yourselves at home and feel free to have a look around. We're planning to update the site with more uncanniness so be sure to keep checking.
Lastly we've waved farewell to our home (Fuzzy Towers) where OPTIMISM was devised and rehearsed. It was sad times for sure. But we've been given a new space by our friends at East Street Arts that we've cleverly dubbed Uncanny Towers!
